Swiss balance ball ergonomic office chairs - what could be better?

Exercise is good
and excellent posture is better! Add to that mix ergonomic considerations, and what do you have?

Why the Ball Chair Ergonomic Office Chair of course!

As described:

Ball ChairThe Ball Chair is a new and exciting ergonomic chair for the office was designed by a group of physicians, health practitioners and engineers in Switzerland to promote correct posture, to help strengthen the muscles in the abdominal area and the spine, and to take stress off the back and neck. The egg-shaped ball chair does not compress discs in the spine, like a regular chair. Most people who sit in front of a computer or at a desk for prolonged time periods with a regular office chair assume poor posture. It results in flattening of the lumbar spine and altered head carriage. This can result in chronic lower back pain, weak abdominal muscles, and neck problems that often lead to headaches. Prolonged sitting can also cause poor circulation in the legs resulting in painful leg cramps or the sensation of the legs falling asleep. The Ball Chair ergonomic chair for the office enables individuals to achieve proper posture….MORE….

Cranky Fitness - you have to read this!

It’s rare that I come
across fitness blogs that have that cutting edge of humor we all know and love, but CrankyFitness certainly makes the grade! Check this out:

Dear Cranky Fitness,

I’m 19 years old and thin and gorgeous and hot. I have really rich parents, a bunch of cute boyfriends, a brand new BMW and I don’t even need to go to college ’cause my Daddy got me this awesome job at his recording studio. Everyone wishes they were me.

Anyway, I keep hearing all this stuff about exercise and sleep and antioxidants and I have to laugh. I can eat anything I want and I look great! I can party all night and drink and smoke and snort pretty much anything I want and the next day, I’m still like, beautiful and thin and awesome! (Just a little sleepy).

My question is: Why should I eat gross vegetables and do boring exercises when it’s no fun? Sweat is smelly and icky. And everyone knows smokers are way hipper than non-smokers, so why should I quit? Oh, and treadmills and yogurt and vegetables–those are just for the ugly fat people, right? Sexy people are perfect just the way we are.

So no offense but your advice, like, totally sucks.

Signed, Hollywood Hottie…MORE….

ROTFLMAO! If only all diet/fitness bloggers were as engaging to read….

Pants that power your phone? Shirts that power your iPod?

Could this truly be
in your future? Imagine during your jog that your pants are recharging and powering your phone, or your shirt is juicing up your iPod. In other words, the more energy you yourself expend, the more power you create!

I was recently alerted to this concept by the knee-brace that can power up to 30 minutes of typical mobile phone usage. To wit:

US and Canadian scientists have built a novel device that effortlessly harvests energy from human movements.

The adapted knee brace, outlined in the journal Science, can generate enough energy to power a mobile phone for 30 minutes from one minute of walking…

The new device generates power by a process known as “generative braking”, analogous to the braking systems found in hybrid-electric cars such as the Toyota Prius.

“Walking is a lot like stop-and-go driving,” explained Dr Max Donelan of Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, Canada, lead author of the paper.

“Within each stride muscles are continuously accelerating and decelerating the body.

Hybrid electric cars take advantage of stop-and-go driving using so-called “regenerative braking” where the energy normally dissipated as heat is used to drive a generator.

“We have essentially applied the same principle to walking.” ….MORE….

Well! It was just reported that piezoelectric fabric that generates power through the bending of its component threads could harvest useful amounts of power from a wearer’s body motions.

Cool, eh?

Some more information:

… In tests with just two short fibres, Wang’s team was able to generate a few picowatts of power, but they found that the power output increased 50-fold when three pairs of fibres are twined together into a yarn, increasing the area of contact.

Wang estimates that the fabric should be capable of generating about 80 milliwatts of electricity per square metre, enough to charge a cellphone battery or other personal electronics from the ordinary motions of a shirt or a curtain blowing in the wind….MORE…

I can just imagine - power up your pants enough, and it will force you to do your walking for you. :)

Morning,
So….picture the following. You’re at the gym and you’re ready to rock and you dashingly install your earphones in your, well, ears, and boldly stride to perform you incredibly dynamic workout when….your earbud wires get caught on the elliptical or in the Smith Machine or….you get the idea.

After you re-attach your flapping earlobes, you ask yourself -gee, why am I still bothering with wires?

Why indeed. While rather expensive, you can go the wireless ear bud route at the gym! Here are some cool places that discuss them

Looks like it will be quite awhile before the prices reach what mortal men generally consider fair. But still, if you’re constantly getting all tied up with your headphone/earbud wires at the gym, it might be a wise future investment.

ThankYouVeryMuch,

Owlbert
